The core objective of this project is the comprehensive renovation of the Mare de Déu de Montserrat Psychopedagogical Center. While the intervention is primarily interior-focused, it also significantly upgrades the exterior of the facility through full facade rehabilitation, the addition of a new first-floor terrace, and the construction of two external circulation cores at opposite ends of the building.
Proposal// The intervention reorganizes the overall layout and activities of the facility, breathing new life into areas that were partially underutilized and aligning the building with the center’s current operational needs. The strategy expands the residential area and relocates it to the first floor, while dedicating the entire ground floor to specialized workshops. The functional program is distributed as follows:
-
Ground Floor: The existing layout was completely cleared to establish a new, optimized arrangement. The central core now houses the main entrance lobby and administrative offices, while the remaining wings are dedicated to workshops and a specialized gym, providing the high-level functionality required by a modern psychopedagogical service.
-
First Floor: The previous configuration was fully dismantled to create a floor entirely dedicated to residential care. This area features private single and double bedrooms, alongside essential dining facilities and dedicated medical care spaces.
Sustainability//Centralizing the production systems streamlines maintenance operations while ensuring zero disruption to building users. The proposal maximizes sustainability throughout both the construction phase and the operational lifecycle of the finished facility, leveraging sustainable building solutions to minimize subsequent maintenance costs.
